Tomer Weiss: Bridging the Gap between Physical and Virtual Reality

Virtual environments are prevalent and enjoy multiple applications. Novel virtual environment mediums, such as Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality (XR), can merge with our physical reality and have the power to revolutionize many fields, including communication, healthcare, and education. Regrettably, current approaches cannot accommodate this evolving front. Bridging this gap requires seamless large-scale virtual content creation and simulation.

Tami Tamir: Cost-Sharing Games in Real-Time Scheduling Systems

We apply non-cooperative game theory to analyze the server's activation cost in real-time scheduling systems. An instance of the game consists of a single server and a set of unit-length jobs. Every job needs to be processed along a specified time interval, defined by the job's release-time and due-date. Jobs may also have variable weights, which specify the amount of resource they require. We assume that jobs are controlled by selfish agents who act to minimize their own cost, rather than to optimize any global objective.

Ayal Hendel - CRISPR Gene Correction: A New class of Medicines

We are in the midst of a revolution in genome engineering and CRISPR-Cas9 technology was the spark. With unprecedented rapidity, this technology has provided a straightforward, robust, and specific method for genome engineering and gene correction. CRISPR-Cas9 is a technique that allows for highly rapid modification of DNA in genomes of organisms and/or of cells. Our research focuses on developing CRISPR genome engineering as curative therapy for genetic diseases.

Oded Margalit: Cyber Riddles

Cyber has become a hot topic in the recent years; and there is an acute shortage of skilled personal in this area.Just like other technologies, cyber has negative (like creating malwares), and positive (like fighting those malware) aspects. In teaching these capabilities it is sometimes hard to distinguish between the two sides and to get the positive outcome without giving dangerous weapon to the students. The solution we'll present in the talk is to use riddles to give the relevant knowledge and practice, without crossing the fine line between a good cyber-security rese

Irit Opher: Speech Recognition – what can and cannot be done (yet?)

Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) was considered science fiction till not long ago. What has changed? Is everything now possible? The talk will include a brief description of ASR technologies covering speaker related, language related and content based applications. The complexity of ASR will be illustrated through examples of input ambiguity, mismatch conditions, and the large variability in human vocal expressions.

Arik Segal: Online Mediation – from Human to Intelligent Machine Interventions

The ascendance and popularity of social media created new spaces for conflicts to take place and a tough challenge for conflict resolution professionals. Nonetheless, latest developments in artificial intelligence and automation might offer an adequate solution. By translating human online mediation capacities into automated bots, it would be possible to mitigate unlimited number of violent conversations on social media platforms.
